ARTISTIC APPROACH
Naturally diligent and meticulous, Rose Cantin draws inspiration from constructivist and minimalist trends to create works in which straightforward geometric shapes and profiled lines master the instability of the hazardous gesture. Dripping, pleating, piling up and a myriad of random and repetitive gestures thus come to thwart the controlled intentions of its initial framework. This eternal battle between the organized and the chaotic animates the production of the autodidact and serves as a guideline for his diverse, but always elegant and refined, collections.
The pictorial and sculptural work of Rose Cantin is a constant back and forth between impulse and control. It generally begins with the precise and impeccable demarcation of a work area in which the artist allows himself to let go. This is followed by the application of colors and textures of different intensities which will then be carefully balanced in order to satisfy the designer’s need for uniformity and delicacy.
